Walther Racing Drivers

Tyler Fling
Raised in Edmond, Oklahoma Tyler started racing karts when he was only 10. This became his passion. He soon became one of the most successful kart drivers among a stable of great drivers from Oklahoma Motorsport Complex in Norman, Oklahoma. These karts are a great learning platform for full size cars. With speeds over 100 mph, these karts have 29 hp 2 stoke engines that run at 17,000 rpm's. Tyler raced with motors from Champion Racing on Intrepid chassis. In addition to winning his regional championship several times, Tyler was also a Triple Crown winner, as he won the Saturday Championship, Sunday Championship and Overall Championship for the Southwest Regional Cup.

Then at 16, Tyler went on to Jim Russell Racing School where he graduated a 3 day Advanced Course, racing full size formula cars. In his first effort to drive a full size formula car, he outran the field. Tyler competed in several races in a Formula Mazda at Hallett Racing Circuit, always finishing in the top 3, with a 1st place finish in his first race at that circuit! He finished in 1st place in 3 out of 4 races in the 2007 season in a Formula Mazda.

Tyler now races his Formula SCCA/FE #26 in SCCA events. The need for sponsorship and exposure is always paramount. It is this type of exposure that he hopes can someday lead to him competing at a professional level.

Lee Walther
Lee has been involved with racing since the early 80's. He started his career racing open wheel cars on dirt ovals. He won races in Modified Midgets, full Midgets and Sprint cars. In 2005, Lee started road racing in Formula Mazda. He won the 2005 MidAm championship, was a top 10 driver in the Division and was named Rookie of the Year. In 2008, Lee switched to Formula Enterprises and won the Midwest Division Title and was 8th at the SCCA Championship Runoffs earning the Sunoco Hard Charger Award.

Mike Fling
Raised in Dallas, Texas Mike came to Oklahoma to attend dental school. He started racing karts in 2000 with his son, Tyler. Even though he has a larger build, the extra weight didn't hinder his kart racing success. He raced an Intrepid kart in the TAG class. He is a 3 time TAG Master's regional champion. He also had success on a national level finishing in the top 10 in his first race at the Rock Island Grand Prix, and 8th nationally. These karts are a great learning platform for full size cars. With speeds over 100 mph, these karts have 29 hp 2 stoke engines that run at 17,000 rpm's.

In 2004, Mike attended a driving school at Skip Barber in Phoenix, Arizona. There he had his first exposure in open wheel cars. He was hooked. After purchasing a Formula Mazda in 2005, he participated in SCCA events. He finished second in points for two consecutive years in the Midwest Division. His only attempt in the SCCA runoffs ended before it began with a DNS.

The 2008 season was completed in a new ride, the Formula SCCA/FE. While the new car was awesome to drive, it provided many challenges. Between dropped gear boxes, and one trashed motor, Mike was able to finish second in points in the Midwest division. He knows he has a lot to learn to keep up with the really fast guys. It is the experience of each race and the relationships he has developed with his fellow racers and his son that make racing worth while.
